Supporting Arts And Live Events Workers In Response To COVID-19
March 3, 2021
Arts and music breathes life into Canadian communities and helps drive our economy. That is why we are investing $181.5 million to help support our cultural workers, and help stage COVID-19-safe events - both live and digital - across 2021-2022.
- $40 million in new funding to stimulate short-term contracting of workers in the live events sector through 3 Canadian Heritage programs: Building Communities through Arts and Heritage, the Canada Arts Presentation Fund and the Canada Music Fund
- Extend a one-year renewal of funding of $25 million for these 3 Canadian Heritage programs, originally provided in Budget 2019
- Invest $116.5 million from Canada Council for the Arts through Digital Now, a new digital innovation initiative to enable arts groups, collectives and organizations to adapt or create works to be shared with virtual audiences
Through this funding support we are standing up for those Canadians working in the arts and culture sector, and helping them financially bridge this difficult period brought on by the pandemic.
