Since 2015, our government has placed a priority on making stronger and more sustainable communities by improving and upgrading transit nationwide. Since then, over $200 million has been invested across Durham Region to help upgrade our local transit infrastructure.
Today, we announced $14.9 billion in transit funding across Canada over the next 8 years. This investment includes permanent funding of $3 billion per year for Canadian communities beginning in 2026-27, to provide municipalities with predictable transit funds that will help them plan for their future. It will also help reduce pollution and move us closer to our climate goals.
This investment reaffirms our commitment to help our communities upgrade their transit systems, create good jobs, fight climate change and improve the overall quality of life for all Canadians.
