CERB Repayments Interest Relief On 2020 Income Tax For Self-Employed Canadians
February 10, 2021

Since day one, our government has been there for workers in Canada with historic income support measures. These measures included the Canada Emergency Recovery Benefit (CERB), a benefit to help ensure that workers laid off due to COVID-19 could make ends meet and continue to put food on the table for their families. The CERB helped more than 8 million workers and their families pay for things like food and rent at a time when we were asking people to stay home and flatten the curve.

For self-employed Canadians who received emergency benefits in 2020 - such as the CERB, Employment Insurance (EI), Canada Recovery Benefit (CRB), Canada Recovery Caregiver Benefit (CRCB) and Canada Recovery Sickness Benefit (CRSB) - and also made under $75,000 in taxable income, they will not be required to pay interest on any money owed on their 2020 tax return.

We will continue to do whatever it takes, for as long as it takes, to provide Canadians and their families with the support and certainty they need to get through the pandemic and help build Canada back better.
